The ISA National Athletics Finals is a highlight of the school sporting calendar. Only those athletes who qualify via their regional ISA competitions earn a place at the prestigious National Finals – this year held on Monday 16 June 2025 at the renowned Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, home to UK Athletics and a venue for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The stadium’s world-class, nine‑lane Category 1 track and modern facilities offered the perfect stage for a day of fast-paced track action and challenging field events, bringing together the best young talent from across the ISA regions.
Congratulations to all our athletes who competed yesterday – it was an event that truly celebrated sporting talent, determination, and team spirit, bringing together schools from across the country to compete in a wide variety of track and field events.
Our pupils represented Abbey Gate College with pride, taking part in the 80m sprint, hurdles, relays, javelin, and shotput. Their performances reflected the hard work and technical focus developed throughout the term in PE lessons, with several standout achievements on the day.
A particular highlight came from Tristan L (J6), who stormed to gold in the 100m and went on to help break a national relay record alongside his teammates—an extraordinary feat! Otto M (Y7) also secured bronze as part of his relay team, while Christal W (Y7) added to the tally with a bronze finish in the girls’ Y7 relay.
In the field events, we celebrated further success with Maddie C (Y10) being crowned National Champion in the javelin, claiming gold with an exceptional throw. Toby C (Y10) earned a well-deserved bronze in the shotput, contributing to an already impressive medal count.
Honourable mentions go to Abbie D (Y10), Bibi G (Y9), and Sam M (Y10), all of whom gave superb performances and represented the College with real commitment and focus.
Whether taking to the podium or giving their all in competition, every participant should feel immensely proud. The event was a celebration not only of athletic excellence but also of the values of sportsmanship, perseverance, and regional pride.
A huge thank you to the coaches, officials, and organisers for making the day such a success – we look forward to building on this momentum at future ISA events.
