Partnership ‘Come and Sing’ Fills Chester Cathedral with Song
Published on 25th February 2026
In early February, over 120 primary school pupils gathered at Chester Cathedral for a special partnership ‘Come and Sing’ event hosted by Abbey Gate College – and what a splendid sound they made.
Children from local primary schools filled the Cathedral with confident voices as they sang In My Father’s Housealongside Abbey Gate College’s Chapel Choir. Our own singers led the performance with assurance and generosity, setting the tone and offering encouragement to their younger counterparts. It was a pleasure to see such natural leadership in action, with our pupils guiding rehearsals and supporting the visiting children throughout.
Beyond the music, the day offered a rich taste of Cathedral life. Pupils enjoyed a guided tour, exploring the remarkable history and architecture of this much-loved city landmark. There was even the chance to dress as medieval pilgrims – a popular highlight that brought history vividly to life.
The children were also introduced to the Cathedral’s music team and treated to a demonstration of the grand organ. Hearing the instrument resonate through the nave was a memorable moment and provided a fascinating glimpse into the craft and discipline behind professional church music-making.
Events such as this are a fine example of partnership in practice – bringing schools together, celebrating tradition and giving young people the opportunity to experience something truly uplifting. A joyful day, a beautiful setting and voices raised in harmony.
