A fantastic day of athletics unfolded at the City of Manchester Stadium as our students took part in the ISA North Athletics competition, with 16 schools competing in a vibrant display of sporting talent.

Abbey Gate College athletes impressed across the board, with a number of standout performances – particularly in the hurdles and relays, where recent focused practice in lessons and after-school sessions clearly paid off.

Several of our athletes have now qualified for the National ISA Finals in Birmingham on 16 June, a testament to their hard work and dedication.

In Year 7, Cristal W achieved a superb double victory, winning both the hurdles and 100m sprint. Otto M matched that feat, securing a win in the 100m and ensuring a clean sweep for the College in that age group.

Year 9 saw another double from Jack C, who stormed to victory in the hurdles before leaping an impressive 10.86m to win the triple jump. Bibi G also excelled in the field, taking first place in the javelin with a throw of 22.01m.

Our Year 10 athletes continued the success. Sam M dominated the javelin with a throw of 28.36m, while Maddy C threw a winning 22.83m. Abi D triumphed in the long jump with a 4.00m leap, and Toby C was victorious in the shot put, reaching 9.63m.

All six of our teams – across every age and gender group – finished in the top six overall. The Pre-Junior Girls (Year 7) placed an excellent 2nd, with the Inter Boys (Year 10) securing 3rd place.

A huge well done to all the pupils who represented the College so brilliantly. Their efforts, attitude and team spirit were a real credit to Abbey Gate.
