Abbey Gate College is celebrating outstanding success in the National Youth Monologue Competition, having been named the North West winner of the prestigious Schools and Groups Award.

The award recognises the school which, across the entire North West region, submitted the highest number of entries of exceptional quality – a remarkable achievement for Abbey Gate College’s thriving Performing Arts department.

This regional success now places Abbey Gate College amongst just 12 schools and groups nationally in contention for the overall UK title. The National Schools and Groups Champion will be announced at the National Final on 14 June at the Trafalgar Theatre in London’s West End.

Abbey Gate College students also made up an impressive 14% of all Northern Regional Finalists, spanning pupils from KS2 through to Sixth Form. Even more excitingly, 50% of the College’s Northern Regional Finalists have now progressed through to the National Final.

The students representing Abbey Gate College on the national stage are:

  • Flora M – KS2 Screen Monologue
  • Amira M – KS3 Screen Monologue
  • Amy R – KS4 Classical Monologue
  • Marcus E – Sixth Form Classical Monologue

Several other Abbey Gate College performers also remain in contention for a place at the National Final through the competition’s ‘wild card’ selection process, with results due to be announced next Monday.

With finalists representing every Key Stage, the achievement reflects both the depth of talent across the College and the strength of its Performing Arts provision.

Congratulations to all pupils involved, and best of luck to our finalists – and hopeful wild card performers – as they prepare for the next stage of the competition.
