We were very pleased to welcome our local MP, Edward Timpson, on a visit to our beautiful College, and to meet with our Chair of Governors and our Head.

As well as a walk around our fabulous grounds and historic buildings, there was useful discussion about Labour’s proposals to increase school fee costs for our parents, were the party to be elected.

Contrary to how some politicians may speak about independent schools, as though they are all the same, we explained how Abbey Gate College serves a very real and clearly defined educational need in this region, for which so many of our hard-working families are making significant personal sacrifices, in order to afford – on top of the taxes they already pay for maintained-school places they are not using.

We very much hope that our contribution, as an independent school, to the diversity of provision for young people in this country will resonate increasingly, as this proposal continues to be debated.
