Year 9 Footballers in Chester Cup Win

Bishops Bluecoat 2-2,Abbey Gate College – Abbey Gate win 6-5 on penalties.
In yesterday’s Chester Cup match against Bishops Bluecoat, our Year 9 footballers faced skilful and strong opposition. With an excellent defensive display, noticeably Toby C in goal performing exceptionally, keeping the score to 1-0 at half time.
After soaking up a lot of heavy pressure, on the attack a Fabian V through ball allowed Ewan D to slot home the equaliser against the run of play (1-1).
Further pressure resulted in a last minute header by the home team to, it seemed, secure victory amidst wild celebrations (2-1).
Credit to the Abbey Gate College squad on waiting patiently for the ‘celebrations’ to end and the game to restart. From the following kick-off, Sam S slammed the ball over the goalkeeper and directly in for a final score of 2-2.
In the penalty shoot out that followed, Toby C again excelled saving three times allowing Freddie W to score the winning penalty.
A great victory for the Abbey Gate Squad for the resilience and persistence shown by all players.
